Private Albert Henry Garnett
Albert Henry Garnett was born on 14 January 1899 at Cawnpore, India, the eighth of eleven children of Indian Army officer William Garnett and his wife Bessie Jane (nee Pearson).
Garnett enlisted in the Derbyshire Yeomanry, probably after his eighteenth birthday in 1917.
On 11 or 12 September 1918 he was one of fifty-six men of various yeomanry regiments compulsorily transferred to the Corps of Hussars and posted to the North Irish Horse. (Garnett was issued regimental number 81258.)
On 12 September they embarked at Folkestone for Boulogne, where they were posted to the North Irish Horse Cyclist Regiment, which was then serving as corps cavalry to V Corps. They joined the regiment in the field on or soon after 18 September, and were assigned to A, D and E Squadrons, joining in the fighting in the final weeks of the Advance to Victory offensive.
Garnett was transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve, on 10 February 1919.
He died in 1974 at Southend-on-Sea, Essex.
